INTRO
Bangka Belitung, a province of a million inhabitants, is a group of small islands located in Indonesia. DAY 2
The locals believed that tin mining began since the 5th century with simple equipments, like wooden crowbars. There was also evidence of mining during the time of the Sriwijaya Kingdom. It was not until 1858 when exploration for tin ore began by Chinese immigrants and introduced tools such as the Chinese pump and the Skewer Drill. The Dutch followed suit and began mining with their own technology. In 1910 offshore mining with dredgers began. Nowadays, with technology developing fast, more resources are on demand, which means more mining. It is the main source of the province’s economy. For the locals, it is part of everyday life. As it may give the locals jobs, is mining the only way for the people to get an income? Is it healthy or safe? A doctor, …, from the local Catholic hospital, explains. [interview]
[display quantative data]
Now, what do the local miners think of this? How is mining a part of daily life for the miners and how are the mines helping them? Local miner Pak Hidayat explains. [interview]
DAY 3
The Bangka-Belitung beaches. This is the more peaceful side of the islands. It is hard to imagine that such paradise is being destroyed by mining activities, affecting the environment and the people. Health is an issue for the miners, which is why safety standards need to be improved. From all this, it is what the islands are hiding from the tourists.

Conclusion
In Genesis 1:26-27 God created mankind in His image and gave us rule over everything on earth. He trust us to take care of all the creatures in the sky, sea and earth. He also created us in His likeness, which means that He wants us to be like him, to be loving and compassionate towards others. Therefore we should take care of the nature and animals, all the inhabitants of earth, and not destroy them, or misuse God’s trust. -instead of abandoning the mines, we should take care of it and reclaim it. As for the beauty that is still left in the world, it should be taken care of and not exploit it for our own advantage.
26 God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
